REGIONAL TEST CENTER, SPRERI Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute hosts premier test center – Regional Test Center (RTC), accredited by Bureau of Indian Standards and Ministry of New & Renewable Energy – New Delhi for testing of solar thermal devices like solar water heaters, box cookers, concentrating type cookers etc. of different designs and capacity. The applicant is also engaged in test center.

TRAINING ON INTERLABORATORY COMPARISON AND PROFICIENCY TESTING BY BUREAU OF INDIAN STANDARDS The applicant has undergone special training on Inter laboratory comparisons and proficiency testing and Z-scores organized by Bureau of Indian Standards, Mumbai. “Inter Laboratory Comparisons”, by words, means organizations of performance and evaluation of tests on the same or similar test items by two or more laboratories in accordance with predetermined conditions whereas, “Z-Scores” suggests the normalized value which gives a score to each result relative to the other members in the group. So a Z-Score value close to zero means that the result agrees well from the other values. Moreover there are other statistical parameters such as En values which gives us an indication of the normalized error (Corresponding to z-score) and used in judging the quality of measurement by calculating the error normalized with respect to the stated uncertainty. Certain other aspects which were part of the training were computing and interpreting classical and robust Z-scores, youden plots, Scrutiny for stragglers and outliers, Mandel h & k Statistics, Cocharan’s test, Grubb’s test etc. The training program covered various aspects such as calibration using reference standards or reference material, comparison of results achieved with other methods, inter laboratory comparison or Proficiency Testing, Systematic assessment of factors influencing result and assessment of the uncertainty of results based on scientific understanding of the theoretical principles and practical experience. Proficiency testing is a pre accreditation activity for any test laboratory and is one of the techniques by which the data produced by a laboratory/method/procedure can be validated. It is a method to check a laboratory’s testing/calibration performance within its own laboratory and with other higher echelon laboratories.
