3M targets technology capabilities at solar under new renewable energy division
The company noted that its current Mirror Films used instead of glass for Solar Concentrator Panels demonstrated the potential for lower costs, while its next-generation films will also have improved ultraviolet stability, low flammability and self cleaning. 3M also announced that the new division would be led by Michael Roman, a 3M employee who has been given the title of Vice President and General Manager. Roman is currently a VP in 3M’s Optical Systems Division, Asia. "3M´s new operation will serve the renewable energy market globally and bring the best products and technologies from a single source to customers worldwide," commented Roman.
