Construction Begins on Module Plant

Construction on a new highly automated solar photovoltaic (PV) module assembly facility owned by Centosolar Group AG is underway. This marks the start of the expansion of the Sonnenstromfabrik Wismar plant in Wismar, Germany. The new facility is scheduled to produce its first PV modules by July of this year.

Centrosolar is investing approximately €20 million [US $30 million] in the expansion. Starting in 2010 the plant will be turning out solar modules with an annual capacity of 150 megawatts (MW) and a corresponding annual sales volume estimated at €140 million [US $210 million]. Cenrosolar previously had a production capacity of 30 MW.

“The entire relocation project from the current site about five kilometers away to the new production hall is due for completion by the end of the year,” said the plant´s Managing Director Ralf Hennings.
