DuPont To Increase Supply of Tedlar for PV Market

DuPont announced its intent to expand production capacity for its DuPont Tedlar films. Scope and site selection work is under way, targeting start-up in late 2009, pending final project approval. Upon completion, the project is expected to more than double the current global production for Tedlar, and would be the largest capital investment DuPont has made in Tedlar to date.

"The photovoltaic industry is in the midst of a substantial surge globally, and the demand for solar energy continues to increase," said Cynthia Green, vice president and general manager of DuPont Fluoroproducts. "This project underscores our commitment to sustainability and providing products that deliver clean, renewable energy for people around the world."
 

Tedlar is manufactured at DuPont´s
Fayetteville, North Carolina, facility, as well as sites in Louisville, Kentucky. Buffalo, New York and Towanda, Pennsylvania. DuPont said it anticipates that the photovoltaic market will grow by more than 50 percent in each of the next few years, driving demand for existing and new materials that are more cost effective. DuPont also said that it expects sales of several product lines into the photovoltaic industry could exceed US $1 billion within the next five years.
